Client Files
SoloQuest runs on the RoF2 client. The client files below are required: they carry the zones, models and interface support the server cannot send you on its own. The only genuine choice is whether you also want the classic spell visuals.
These two archives are the same required install. They differ in one respect only: whether your spells look classic or modern. Download one of them, not both.
The complete install, with classic spell visuals. Contains the classic zone models for Nektulos, Lavastorm, East Commons, Highpass, Toxxulia and the Bazaar, the maps, the interface DLL, the ability names, and the classic spell animations and particle effects.
zones · maps · dinput8.dll · dbstr_us.txt · BaseData.txt · spells_us.txt · SpellEffects/ · spellsnew.eff · 560 files
Download Client FilesThe identical install with your current spell visuals left alone. Everything else is the same, but the four spell-visual files are left out, so casting looks exactly as it does today. Choose this if you want the old zones without the old spell effects.
the above, minus spells_us.txt, SpellEffects/, spellsnew.eff and spellsnew.edd · 56 files
Download Modern Spells versionExtract into your EverQuest folder, keep the folder structure, and overwrite when asked. Back up anything you care about first.
Then move four files out of the way. The classic zones arrive as .s3d files, and the client will go on loading the newer .eqg versions instead unless these are gone. Delete or rename:
bazaar.eqg · lavastorm.eqg · nektulos.eqg · highpasshold.eqg
Renaming them to .eqg.bak is the safer option, since it is trivially undone. Skip this step and those four zones will look unchanged.
If you have one of the archives above and only need the data files refreshed, this is the small download.
The three files that change most often: the interface DLL, the spell table and the ability names. It contains no zones or models, so it is not a substitute for a full install. If you want to stay on modern spell visuals, take the DLL and dbstr_us.txt from it and skip spells_us.txt.
dinput8.dll · spells_us.txt · dbstr_us.txt
Download Data UpdateUseful if you would rather install pieces individually, or you are trying to work out why a keep is showing up blank.
Sits beside eqgame.exe and patches the running client in memory. It makes retained skills appear in your skills window with their true ceiling, lets any class open the Disciplines and Combat Abilities windows, and allows Backstab with a weapon other than a piercer. Without it the server can grant you a keep that stays invisible or unusable. It writes nothing to disk and is removed by deleting it.
The client's own copy of the spell table. The server never transmits cast animations, so this file alone decides what a spell looks like. Ours restores classic animations to spells that had drifted onto later-expansion effects. Purely cosmetic.
Names and descriptions for abilities. The remort keeps are custom entries, so without this file they show up in your AA window unnamed.
